Odisha girl Rutuparna Choudhury upset top three seeds on her way to singles title triumph in the Dr Ramesh Memorial Under-14 Championship Series Tennis Tournament at Shiva Tennis Centre in Visakhapatnam yesterday.
Bhubaneswar lass Rutuparna prevailed over top seed and local favourite Bhavya Ramineni 6-3, 6-4 in the final to gain 25 ranking points. She earlier beat second seed BLS Rithika 4-1, 4-1 (AP) in the quarterfinals and third seed Alisha Samal (Odisha) 6-3, 6-3 in the last-four round.
This was the maiden under-14 and second AITA junior singles title for Rutuparna, who had won an under-12 crown at Kolkata in December, 2013.
A student of Loyola School, Rutuparn, however, missed a title double as she and her statemate Alisha finished girls` doubles runners-up, losing to AP pair of Bhavya Raminen-M Alekhya in the final, 6-7 (5-7), 3-6.
